Strauss & co - Review 2022

Education is an important way to socially connect Strauss & Co is a growing company. In addition to addressing logistics and critical business infrastructure in 2022, the management team focussed on broadening the roles and responsibilities of its experts. Strauss & Co employs a talented team of specialists with detailed knowledge of their fields. Sharing their knowledge is vital. In 2022, this manifested in in-person talks and lectures at events like August Art Month at Welgemeend and Toyota US Woordfees, as well as through engagements via online channels like Instagram, YouTube and Zoom. Given the centrality of curation in the organisation of its sales drive, Strauss &Co has thrown its support behind the production of standalone exhibitions. In addition to the curated preview exhibitions preceding its four marquee lives sales in Cape Town and Johannesburg, Strauss & Co’s art department produced two important non-selling exhibitions. Giving Direction: Figuration, Past and Present , coordinated by Strauss & Co art researcher Leigh Leyde, presented a historical survey of figurative art from the continent. Timed to coincide with the 2022 Investec Cape Town Art Fair and held at Welgemeend in Cape Town, Giving Direction featured museum- quality works by contemporary artists who are making their mark internationally. They included Georgina Gratrix, William Kentridge, Lutanda Zemba Luzamba, Deborah Poynton, Yinka Shonibare, Billie Zangewa and Portia Zvavahera. 56
