Strauss & co - Review 2022

Strauss & Co originated and produced two important non- selling exhibitions: Giving Direction: Figuration, Past and Present , held in Cape Town, and Dream Invisible Connections: Dorothy Kay and Mary Sibande , held in Johannesburg. The exhibitions provided visitorswith valuable insights and context to the art and artists handled by Strauss & Co. The company also collaborated in producing live editions of August Art Month at Welgemeend and Toyota US Woordfees in Stellenbosch following a two-year hiatus from in-person events. Global marketing initiatives saw Strauss & Co host events in London and Venice, as well as partner on a fortnightly newsletter focused on African art. This review details these and other important sales and marketing initiatives from 2022, with a particular focus on curated auctions, important individual lots sold and noteworthy collections handled. Its education and social responsibility initiatives receive consideration too. We also bid farewell to Vanessa Phillips, a respected colleague and founding partner of Strauss & Co in 2009.
