Strauss & Co reports bumper mid-year results, with first-ever R100-million sale It has been a banner year so far for Strauss & Co, SouthAfrica’s leadingauctionhouse, with half-year sales in the period January through June totalling R195.9 million (R195 936 848). This impressive result surpasses comparable half-year results from 2017 (R170 990 324) and 2018 (R120 140 094). “Strauss & Co experienced a very exciting and eventful first half of 2019, having broken new ground with the launch of the Strauss Fine Wine and Saturday Live auction programmes, while also setting several new auction records. The March sale in Cape Town broke the R100-million mark for the first time in South Africa and confirmed Strauss & Co’s leading role in the dynamic South African art market. We are proud of the fact that we could set new auction records for contemporary artists such as Athi-Patra Ruga, as well as South African masters like Irma Stern and Anton van Wouw.
