Strauss & co - 2016 Mid-year Review

Strauss & Co and the AVA Burr Print & Purpose Following a sponsorship initiated last year, Strauss & Co again put its weight behind the Association for Visual Arts to promote the fine art of printmaking. A month-long exhibition, with workshops, walkabouts and talks, firmly brought that message home. Adjunk to this, AVA has produced its first print portfolio. Burr Print & Purpose is a unique, limited-edition publication. The first edition will be auctioned, as a fundraiser for the association’s ArtReach project, in Cape Town by Strauss & Co on 10 October 2016. Artists participating are Bridget Barker, Lien Botha, Georgina Gratrix, Randy Hartzenberg, Bonolo Kavula, Vulindiela Nyoni, Andrew Putter and Mandla Vanyaza. Usually working in various different media, they were invited to rekindle the tactile power of print in an era of media and communication overload. In other words, the theme is print itself, for which ‘burr’ acts as metaphor. The curators are Eunice Geustyn and Melvyn Minnaar. Georgina Gratrix 9
