Jacob Hendrik Pierneef, Extensive Landscape, Lydenburg, Northern Drakensberg Beyond Sold for R 5 911 360 Be part of Strauss & Co’s forthcoming auctions It gives me great pleasure to inform you that our auction results for the first half of 2013 have been extremely positive showing a solid and buoyant market across the board, from paintings to furniture, silver to jewellery and glass to ceramics. We realised a total turnover of R96 million whilst our high average sell through rate of 85%, unique to Strauss & Co, was maintained. These figures reaffirm our position as global market leaders in South African art, and demonstrate the real interest of buyers in the top quality works we handle. We have been able to achieve these results whilst maintaining our competitive commission rates and our level of expertise and professionalism across all aspects of our business. Valuation days at our offices, July 2013 We are currently inviting consignments for our forthcoming auctions. Should you be thinking of selling, we would be delighted to assist you with a free and confidential valuation. Please contact us to book an appointment. Cape Town Johannesburg Monday 15 & Tuesday 16 July Wednesday 17 & Thursday 18 July 021 683 6560 011 728 8246 Submissions for our forthcoming auctions close on Friday 19 July (Cape Town) and Friday 30 August (Johannesburg). In closing, I would like to share with you two of Strauss & Co’s most recent successes. The Cecil Skotnes triptych of The Last Supper achieved R1 818 880 (six times its pre- sale estimate) following the much disputed decision by the Institute for Catholic Education to remove it from the Santa Sofia Refectory in Pretoria. We are pleased to report that it was bought by a private collector who plans to make it available to a public institution. We were also delighted to be involved in the Wits Art Museum Endowment Auction – an initiative that raised R5 288 500. We anticipate that the next six months will be even more fruitful and look forward to hearing from you.
