It demonstrated what can happen at an auction when two people become so captivated by a picture that both are determined to own it. At the original estimates of R12 000 – 16 000 nobody would have guessed what the next few minutes had in store. The bidding was intense and started creeping up – it was finally knocked down to an incredible R135 000, much to the delight of the audience and, no doubt, the seller. 48
