Lionel Davis was active in the anti-apartheid movement and was incarcerated on Robben Island followed by house arrest. At Rorke’s Drift he worked towards a Diploma in Fine Arts, completing a BA(FA) degree at UCT in 1994. In 1978 and 1990 he was assistant organiser at the Com- munity Arts Project, and in 1995 worked part time at the Iziko South African National Gallery as art educator. He has contributed to literary magazines, books on education and poetry anthologies, over and above exhibiting his artwork in South Africa, Botswana and the USA.
