Gerhard Marx received his BA(FA) from UCT in 2004 and Master degree from WITS in 2008. His latest solo exhibition was CUMULUS , Goodman Galleries, Cape Town and Johannesburg (2011). Marx collaborated on public art projects with William Kentridge, and with Maja Marx. Multidsciplinary, he work as theatre director, scenographer and filmmaker. and in 2010 directed Philip Miller’s cantata Rewind , at the Royal Festival Hall in London and various venues in the USA. Notable awards won include Best Animated Film and Best International Short Film (Bird’s Eye Festival, London), Best Short Film (Latin, African and Asian Film Festival, Milan) and various Naledi Awards. He is a fellow of the Sundance Institute’s Film Directors’ and Screenwriters’ Laboratory, and of the Ampersand Foundation. Cameron Platter lives and works in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, after receiving his BA(FA) degree from UCT’s Michaelis School of Fine Art. His work is a document of contemporary morality; using stories appropriated from the universal themes of sex, love, violence, beauty, advertising, food, battle scenes, pornography, writing, politics, religion, dancing, history, lust, greed, things falling apart, television and spaceships. Platter creates a tapestry that is a homage to historical themes, and an ironical take on what it means to be alive today in contemporary South Africa. His work is in the permanent collection of MoMA, New York. and has been exhibited there, as well as in the Centre Pompidou, Paris; Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin; Iziko South African National Gallery, Cape Town and the Dakar Biennale, Dakar.
