A graduate of UCT, Gregg Smith lived in Cape Town until 2000, working as an artist and lecturing painting at Michaelis. In 2001-02, Gregg was a participant at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and following this moved to France where he studied film-making at Le Fresnoy Studio National des Arts Contemporains (2002- 04). With origins in painting, performance and art in public space, his work is equally accepted in contemporary art and film festival circuits. Recent projects have been shown at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, Le Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France), La Biennale de Dakar (Senegal) and Galerie Krinzinger (Vienna, Austria). He is at present based in Paris, France and is a Professor in the Master of Arts in Public Sphere Program (MAPS) at ECAV, in Sierre, Switzerland. 44 Ruth Sacks . Ruth Sacks is a South African artist based in Belgium. Her research-based practice usually takes the form of book works, text pieces, installations and site-specific interventions. Past exhibitions include: False Friends , a book launch at the Kunstverein, Amsterdam (2010), Double- sided Accumulated , Extraspazio, Rome (2010), Performa 09 , Museum for African Art, New York (2009), ZA at the Palazzo delle Papesse in Siena (2008), and Luanda_Pop Checklist , 52nd Venice Biennale , Italy (2007). Her second artist’s book An Expanded Alphabet , was launched in March this year. Sacks obtained a MFA degree at UCT in 2007 and a laureateship at the Higher Institute
