Kim Gurney is a visual artist, freelance journalist and Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg’s Research Centre,Visual Identities in Art and Design. Since graduating from Michaelis (2006), she has held two solo exhibitions and participated on numerous group shows. Kim’s work is often concerned with notions of disappearance, gaps and attempting to restore presence to particular absences.Recent works include a floor-to-ceiling installation incorporating sound and created from sculpted instruments. Her current obsession is oversize canvases about scorned urban space. Kim’s research centres on concepts of value. She lives and works in Johannesburg’s inner city.
