Based on their farm, Bonnefoi, in what is now Mpumalanga, they travelled regularly on painting trips, in this case to Kimpton in Hertfordshire. Comparisons with similar landscapes by Maggie Laubser are instructive and demonstrate the distinct impact of the German Expressionists on Laubser as opposed to the influence of the British landscape tradition and the French en plein air painters on the Everards.
