It included plant species native to Africa and Australia. In the early 2000s it was decided to split the genus and the two African lineages were renamed Vachellia and Senegalia . Acacia karroo , commonly known as the sweetthorn or soetdoring, and originally registered at Kew Gardens with the name spelled incorrectly with two ‘r’s, is now formally Vachellia karroo .
