Established in 1896, Dr Paul Cluver IV pioneered the Elgin wine region and today it is a family affair. Andries Burger is married to Paul’s daughter and has been winemaker for two decades. Recognised amongst South Africa’s wine elite, this was only the second vintage of the reserve Seven Flags range. ‘Pale, delicate youthfully introverted 2007 offers its charms grudgingly: only hrs after uncorking reveals itself as a sheathed powerhouse, decade+ away from peak – for the cobwebbiest corner of the cellar.
