25 Alto Rouge 1984 750ml 6 (1 x 6) R5 000 – 7 000 PROVENANCE Private Client ITEM NOTES The iconic Helderberg property has title deeds back to 1693 and 2019 marks a century of winemaking heritage. Hennie and Manie Malan recognised the property’s unique terroir for crafting full-bodied red wines early on, but it was Piet du Toit in 1959 who put Alto on top. Vintages from the 1960s, 70s and early 80s are some of South Africa’s finest of the era. The 1984 Rouge was legendary Gerhard ‘Hempies’du Toit’s second vintage, after taking over the reins from his father in the newly built estate cellar. Few wineries can lay claim to levels of trust in quality and ageability as Alto reds.
