182 Porseleinberg Syrah 2010 750ml 6 (1 x 6) R8 000 – 10 000 PROVENANCE Wine Cellar ITEM NOTES In 2009, under Marc Kent’s guidance, Boekenhoutskloof purchased Porseleinberg, a small mountain ridge just south of Riebeeck Kasteel in the Swartland. A decade later, winemaker Callie Louw has established one of South Africa’s best red wines with recognition both locally and abroad. The vineyards, located on extremely dry and schistous soils, produce just one wine which harks of the Rhône with South African fruit. The 2010 is the rare maiden vintage which is yet to reach maturity and will age for another decade or more. ‘Shows weight and cut, displaying a core of crushed plum, blackberry coulis and raspberry fruit flavours wrapped in singed bay leaf, mesquite and iron notes. Long, fleshy and mouthwatering, with persistent ferrous and woodsy accents. A serious new wine. Syrah… 300 cases made.’ Wine Spectator, 92/100
