168 Sadie Family Soldaat 2011 750ml 3 (1 x 3) R1 800 – 2 400 PROVENANCE Wine Cellar ITEM NOTES Eben Sadie is South Africa’s most revered winemaker and he arguably kick-started the local fine wine revolution. Over two decades, his pursuit for quality in the Swartland has been unparalleled in South Africa and he was voted Winemaker of the Year in 2017 by the International Master of Wine Institute. The Soldaat is pure Grenache from granite soils in Piekenierskloof at 700m altitude. The Piekenierskloof took its name from the foot soldiers (piekeniers) who stayed on top of the mountain to protect livestock from theft, hence, this parcel of vines is named Soldaat (Soldier). This is most likely Sadie’s rarest red. ‘It has a real, rustic, old school Chateauneuf-du-Pape inspired nose reminiscent of an old Rayas. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp strawberry and redcurrant fruit …There is just so much character in this Grenache you will want to have another bottle after it is finished.’ Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 95/100
