Illustrated on page 150, catalogue number 333. This early work by Maggie Laubser, executed in Holland in 1920 before she returned to South Africa, depicts a motif that she would return to throughout her career: the harvest, as inspired by life on her family farms, Bloublommetjieskloof and Oortmanspoort. In a departure from her usual harvesting scenes, Laubser has instead portrayed this woman at rest and has rendered her in muted colours and simplified forms; imbuing the painting with the sense of tranquillity needed for a respite. ©The Estate of Maggie Laubser | DALRO
