The IconicOuwingerdreeks Lot byEbenSadie&WilliamKentridge In 2010 the Old Vine Series (Ouwingerdreeks) was released in South Africa. They turned the world’s attention to the historic vineyards of the Cape and catalysed the new wave of old vine bottlings, in some cases from lesser known varieties. The six wines of the Ouwingerdreeks produced by Eben Sadie was one of the more significant releases in modern Cape winemaking. Made in tiny quantities, and sold expensively only in this boxed set, fewwine lovers will ever get to taste them, unfortunately. But all those who value the traditions and culture of South African winemaking surely participate in welcoming a brilliant collection of wines, made from some of the country’s oldest vineyards – whose number is sadly declining. The labels were designed with drawings especially created by South Africa’s most noteable artist, William Kentridge, after a visit to the vineyards, to commemorate the maiden release of the Ouwingerdreeks. This set was signed by William Kentridge and Eben Sadie, together with a rare poster of the six labels, which they also signed. The rarity and collectability of this lot is heightened as Kentridge and Sadie only ever signed five sets of bottles.
