The Elgin Winemakers Lot Elgin is a large lush area of land circled by mountains in the Overberg region about 70km southeast of Cape Town with an enviable reputation for quality. Elgin has a unique cool climate ideal for producing refined, elegant and beautifully balanced wines. Syrah is planted in many different sites in Elgin with the wines showing the characteristics of great Cote-Rotie including green olives, raspberry, violets, black and white pepper, blueberry, blackberry, plum and leather. It’s the perfect variety to develop a great blend. The winning bidder will receive a 225 litre barrel of Syrah reflecting the best Elgin has to offer and bottled in the format of choice for the successful bidder. Three of the top winemakers in Elgin; Werner Muller of Iona, Richard Kershaw of Richard Kershaw Wines and Joris van Almenkerk of Almenkerk have combined to produce this magnificent barrel of Syrah.
