294 A silver double beaker, apparently unmarked, 18th century, of Cape interest of barrel form, with ribbed bands, the rim and interior engraved ‘J. H. Rëdelinghuys’, each base inset with a Dutch ‘Silver Rider’ducaton, one Zeeland 1757, the other Gelderland 1774, gilt interior, 285g, 9,7cm high; with later leather case, some straps lacking R20 000–25 000 PROVENANCE J H Rëdelinghuys, born Brandenburg, Berlin 1720, married Johanna Hermina de Vries on the 19th October 1755. The double beaker may possibly have been purchased on the occasion of their 20th wedding anniversary and the baptism of their tenth and last child, 16th January 1774.
