He has been described as one of the fastest rising talents in contemporary African art and is one of the very few South Africans to be selected for Documenta 13, the prestigious art exhibition set to open on 9 June 2012 in Kassel Germany. He was the first black student to graduate with a BA Fine Art from the University of Pretoria. This painting emerged from his projects Dying to be Men and Black President which explored notions of masculinity and power in Africa. Chiurai was included in Figures & Fictions: Contemporary South African Photography at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and Impressions from South Africa: 1965 to Now at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which acquired Chiurai’s work for their collection. His work is also represented in the collections of Iziko South African National Gallery, BHP Billiton and Nando’s UK, amongst others.
