22 17 A Cape silver teapot, Daniel Beets, late 18th/early 19th century oval with canted corners, the shoulders engraved with bright-cut foliate decoration and wrigglework, the hinged cover similarly engraved above a band of reeding, with a wooden finial, applied with a leaf-capped wooden handle, the body engraved with the initials ‘NL’, 1120g all in, 19,3cm high (2) R90 000 – 120 000 LITERATURE Stephan Welz, Cape Silver , Cape Town 1976, p 106, illustrated. ‘One of the finest Cape silver teapots is by Daniel Beets. Not only is this teapot exceptional because of its size – it is 19,3cm high – but it is also the only shaped oval Cape teapot I know of.’p 107 This teapot was used for the design of a 25 cent postage stamp, 5 November 1985.
